Paula tells Gabi that she's going to reconsummate her relationship with Ricardo.
Gabi tries to plant seeds of doubt in Paula's mind.
She also suggests to Ricardo that he give Paula more space.
Gabi is elated when Mark tells her about the room and the job.
Elaine tells Paula to trust her instincts, so Paula decides to go ahead.
Paula returns home just as Ricardo's about to leave for a game with Ruiz.
She gives him a sexy smooch.

Caitlin/Cole/Olivia/Gregory

Caitlin tries to tempt Cole into keeping the jewels.
Cole tells Caitlin that he wishes he could throw the jewels into the ocean, saying that he hates the jewels because Del got them by selling Cole to his grandmother.
Annie tries to make a deal with Olivia.
Caitlin offers to distract her parents while Cole returns the jewels.
Gregory tells Annie that if she goes public with her story, the Deschanels will get the jewels back and they'll all lose them.
Caitlin returns home to find Gregory, Olivia and Annie arguing about the jewels.
In the middle of the argument, Gregory tells Olivia that he's flying her to Spain for a vacation.
Olivia tells Gregory that she can't fly because of her ulcer.
After Annie leaves, Caitlin suggests that her parents drive to Carmel instead.
They try to go upstairs to begin packing, but Caitlin stops them.
Eventually, Caitlin cannot stop them anymore and they go upstairs to find Cole with a briefcase in the bedroom.

Annie tells Ben that she threatened to keep the Deschanel jewels tied up in court.

When Mark finds Meg reading Maria's diary, he says that he's worried about her.

Ben & Meg	When Ben stops kissing Annie after Meg runs away in tears, Annie realizes that Ben was using her. Blaming herself, Meg tells Tim what happened between Ben and Annie. Annie tells Tim that Ben's problem isn't really Meg so much as it's Maria, because his relationship with Meg may have reawakened his feelings for Maria. Meg quits her job at the Deep. Annie says that she'll figure out what happened between Ben and Maria and to use that to get Ben. Meg tells Ben that the Legend of Sunset Beach has let her down. After Meg leaves, Ben blames Maria and kicks her portrait.
	Eddie suggests that he and Bette get real jobs.
Alex's Illness	When Casey realizes that Alex is planning to leave, he suggests that they try to find some kind of experimental treatment for her, and she agrees. They tell Michael that they're off to Norway in search of a cure for Alex's cancer.
Paula/Ricardo/Gabi/Mark	When they're short-staffed at the Deep, Gabi helps Mark out by waiting tables. Mark offers her a job, and Gabi responds that she's not used to people offering her things with no strings attached. Gabi tells Mark that Ricardo has been pursuing her.

When Cait asks why she doesn't tell Gregory, Olivia says that she's afraid that Gregory would leave her. Olivia assures Caitlin that she really has stopped drinking. Ricardo calls Olivia to tell her that she would be receiving the Deschanel jewels that night. Olivia tells Bette that she may yet decide to terminate her pregnancy, if the baby turns out to be Cole's. Olivia asks Tyus to do a paternity test. Gregory arranges for a getaway for him and Olivia. Tyus tells Olivia that he's worried about her health, and that she shouldn't travel just then.
Liberty Corporation	When she sees him at Grenadine's, Annie fishes for information about Ben. Gregory tells Annie to help Ben get over Maria, which Ben overhears when he arrives for a meeting with Gregory. Ben and Gregory go into business together developing a beachfront resort.

	Ben tells Mark that Meg quit, so Mark suggests that he hire Gabi to replace her. Bette sticks Annie with the check for lunch, so Annie ends up working as a hostess at Grenadine's for the afternoon.
	July 15, 1997
Caitlin & Cole	The tape from Cole tells Caitlin to dress in her nicest dress and follow a map. Per Cole's instructions, Caitlin sneaks into the back room of the Deep, where Cole has a romantic dinner set up. Caitlin asks Cole how he could have given up jewel theft for her. He assures her that a life of crime isn't as glamorous as it's portrayed and that she threw him for a loop when he fell for her. Despite all this, she decides that she would like to try her hand at jewel theft.
	Eddie tells Ricardo that he's become a private investigator.
Alex's Illness	Casey calls to tell Michael that he has hopes that Alex will make it.

Michael offers the garage apartment to Virgina (and one of the extra rooms to Gabi). Michael walks in on Vanessa questioning Virginia about whether she's looking for an apartment. Michael asks Vanessa to leave Virginia alone.

Paula/Ricardo/Gabi/Mark	Gabi interrupts an intimate moment for Paula and Ricardo by calling to tell Paula to meet her at the Deep, saying it's an emergency. Gabi leads Eddie to the conclusion that she's going to be telling Paula that she was the woman that Ricardo was kissing the night she was abducted. Paula leaves to see Gabi, promising to make it up to Ricardo. While Eddie is listening, Gabi tells Paula that she has something personal to tell her. Gabi tells Paula that she's going to be leaving the police department, and apologizes, hugging her. Eddie lets it slip to Paula that Gabi was the woman Ricardo was smooching with the night of that she was abducted.
Ben & Meg	When Meg comes to pick up her belongings, Ben asks to speak with her. Meg admits her disappointment when it turns out that Ben was only going to give her final check to her. They almost make up, but Annie interrupts to cry on Ben's shoulder about Olivia receiving the Deschanel jewels. After Meg has left, Ben tells Annie to get over her father's will and get a job. Meg tries, unsuccessfully, to resist the lure of Maria's diary. Ricardo tells Annie to hire a lawyer to contest Del's will. Meg reads one of Annie's entries, seeing herself as Maria. Later, Meg dreams about Maria's death.
Caitlin/Cole/Olivia/Gregory	Caitlin won't let go of the idea that jewel thievery is wonderful, and she begs Cole for a chance to steal something. Fearing that Gregory would throw her out if he knew about her pregnancy, Olivia is thankful for the Deschanel jewels. Cole sets up a situation where Caitlin has to steal a briefcase from under Gregory and Olivia's bed, not noticing that Gregory and Olivia have put the jewels in an almost-identical briefcase under their bed. Caitlin successfully brings the briefcase out from Gregory and Olivia's house. Gregory puts the other briefcase into the safe. When she and Cole open it, the real Deschanel jewels are inside it.

Ricardo confronts Gabi, who pretends that she didn't know that Paula knew and suggests that Eddie may have told her. Paula confronts Gabi with Eddie's story, and Gabi says that Ricardo came on to her. She says that Ricardo assured her that he would tell Paula and says that she was afraid of Ricardo so she went along with it. Paula forgives Gabi. Ricardo comes home while Paula is packing. He tells her that his smooch with Gabi was completely innocent, but she doesn't buy it.
	July 18, 1997
Caitlin/Cole/Olivia/Gregory	Gregory catches Cole with a briefcase that looks like the one that contains the Deschanel jewels. However, Cole opens it and reveals that it contains Cole's dirty laundry. Caitlin tells Gregory the entire truth about the "theft lessons" and the briefcase switch, but he's skeptical. He is also surprised when Cole says that he has no interest in the jewels. Caitlin suggests that her mother tell Gregory about the baby while they're on vacation in Carmel, but Olivia swears her daughter to secrecy. Caitlin asks Cole about his HIV status, and he assures her that he's been tested and that he's HIV negative. He tells her that he wants to have children with her, once she's finished with college and he has a job.

Vanessa/Michael/Virginia	Virginia is offered an apartment, but she tells the landlord that she's already accepted another apartment. Jimmy tells Virginia that she should turn Michael in for killing his father, and Virginia tries to talk Jimmy out of it. Jimmy sees Virginia kiss Michael on the lips, but he's gone by the time she apologizes to him. Vanessa vows to find out what Virginia's hiding.

Paula/Ricardo/Gabi/Mark	When Eddie tells Paula that Gabi told him about her tryst with Ricardo, Paula reconsiders breaking up with Ricardo. However, when she goes to talk to Ricardo, he says that if she can't trust him, then they're better off if they're not together.
	Annie gets a job as personal assistant to Ben.
Ben & Meg	Meg reads one of Annie's forged passages, which says that Ben tried to kill Maria by trapping her in a cave.
	July 23, 1997
Ben & Meg	Meg tells Tim about the entry in Maria's journal, and Tim tells where the cave is. Meg goes to the cave, not knowing that Ben plans to blow the cave up as part of the resort construction.
Caitlin/Cole/Olivia/Gregory	Caitlin gets a phone call telling her that she's pregnant.
	Vanessa finds a photo of JoJo in Virginia's belongings.
	July 24, 1997
Ben & Meg	Tim and Annie trap Meg in the cave, but then Meg gets trapped for real. Annie and Tim go to Ben and tell him that they saw Meg near the cave. Knowing that the cave is about to be blown up, Ben rushes to rescue Meg. The cave demolition goes off on schedule, trapping Meg and Ben in the cave.
	Vanessa overhears Virginia having a phone conversation with JoJo.
Caitlin/Cole/Olivia/Gregory	When Cole is excited about all of the adventures that he and she will have together, Caitlin hesitates to tell him that she's pregnant.

Ben & Meg	Ben and Meg live through the explosion, but, as Ben's sudden appearance has convinced her that he was the one who trapped her in the cave, Meg becomes afraid of Ben.
